Your Fellow South African Couple | February 10, 2025
Welcome to Braai to Britain!
We are Bronwyn and Keagan, a South African couple on an exciting journey from South Africa to the United Kingdom. As we began the process of emigrating, we quickly realized that although there is plenty of information available, it often feels like you're piecing together bits and pieces of a puzzle - especially when you're navigating it all for the first time.
Like many others, we had a ton of questions - questions that didn’t seem to have easy answers. Whether it was about the intricacies of the visa process, the documents we needed, or even something as simple as how to say goodbye to family - finding reliable, straightforward advice was harder than expected. That's where "Braai to Britain" comes in.
We've decided to share our experiences and the lessons we've learned along the way. This website is not just a blog - it's a resource that we hope will make your emigration journey a little smoother. We know that no two journeys are the same, but by documenting our process, we aim to provide relatable, honest, and practical insights.
From the confusion of navigating the visa process to figuring out the smallest of tasks, we've been there. The goal is to give you the answers we wish we had when we were starting out. It’s all about being real, reliable, and as helpful as possible. We hope our story can offer you both guidance and reassurance as you step into this new chapter of your life.
Thank you for joining us on this journey. We’re excited to help you make your dream of starting a new life in the UK a reality!
Keep an eye out for upcoming posts where we’ll dive deeper into various aspects of the emigration process, share tips and tricks, and offer advice we’ve learned firsthand.

Navigating the Ancestral Visa Process
When Keagan and I decided to emigrate to the United Kingdom, we explored various visa options. Since I already hold a British passport (thanks to my father being born in the UK), the ancestral visa was the most fitting route for Keagan, who is a South African citizen. It was a process that required patience, attention to detail, and guidance from immigration experts like Breytenbachs.

Saying Goodbye to Our Furry Friends
When we moved in together, Bronwyn wasn’t someone who grew up with pets, but Keagan had always been surrounded by animals. For Keagans 21st birthday, we decided to adopt a kitten—our first pet together, and one that would be special for both of us. We named him Cody. He quickly became a part of our little family. Later, we decided Cody needed a playmate, so we adopted another baby kitten and named her May. With two playful, loving kittens, our home felt complete.
