TB Test for the UK Application

When it came time for me to do the mandatory TB test for the UK visa application, I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. I understood it was required but wasn’t quite sure why or where to get it done. Fortunately, with a bit of help from Breytenbachs, everything turned out to be much easier than I thought.

When we reached out to Breytenbachs for assistance, they quickly contacted Hatmed to schedule my test. I braced myself for a two-week wait, but much to my surprise, I got a call from Hatmed within an hour offering an appointment that very same morning. It was a whirlwind, but we were ready to go!

The journey from Joburg to Pretoria was a bit of a trek, but once we got to Hatmed’s office, I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth everything went. The staff were super friendly and made the whole process feel pretty relaxed. First, we filled out forms and ensured all was correct, then they took a picture for the TB test, then we were off to get the X-rays done. The whole thing felt like a breeze.

The costs were straightforward. We paid R2200 for the TB test and certificate, and then the X-ray part came to R800. All in all, not too bad, considering everything was taken care of so efficiently. The staff made sure everything was in order before handing us the certificate, and they reminded us that we'd need to show it upon arrival at the airport in the UK.

When Hatmed called to confirm the appointment, they mentioned I would only need my passport for the test, so we were all set. The experience turned out to be way easier than I expected. Friendly faces, quick service, and no hassle at all. We were out of there in no time, and I couldn’t be more relieved to have that part of the process wrapped up. If you’re also going through the TB test, just know it doesn’t have to be stressful—just book with Hatmed and enjoy the ride!

When Selling Before Emigrating Goes Wrong: Our Scamming Story

When Bronwyn and I decided to start the emigration process, we knew we needed to get rid of things we didn’t need or couldn’t take with us. We started sorting items into categories: things to donate, things to sell, and things to throw away. It seemed simple at the time. One of the more painful decisions was selling my PlayStation, something I’d bought for myself for my 21st birthday. I had spent R13,500 on it, plus an extra controller. It was one of those things I had wanted for ages, so saying goodbye wasn’t easy. But with our move ahead, it was time to let it go.
